§ 03 — Case Notes

Three engagements, briefly described

Retreat Planning · Professional Services Firm · KL · Feb 2025

The situation

A professional services firm of twenty-two people was planning its first all-hands retreat in three years. The leadership team had a general sense of what they wanted to cover but had not agreed on priorities or timing, and the retreat was four weeks away.

What we did

A Retreat Planning Working Session that covered topic prioritisation, timing, who should lead which discussion, and what the team wanted to leave the retreat having resolved. Produced a working agenda and a preparation note sent to all participants ten days before the retreat.

What followed

The managing director reported that the retreat completed all five major agenda items — the first time that had happened in their history of annual retreats. Two decisions that had been deferred for over a year were made on the day.

Workshop Facilitation · Technology Company · Shah Alam · Mar 2025

The situation

A technology company's product and engineering teams had an unresolved disagreement about how decisions should be made at the boundary of their two functions. Previous attempts to discuss it had ended inconclusively.

What we did

A Workshop Facilitation Engagement with three preparation conversations over two weeks. The agenda was designed to surface the core disagreement early and work through it before moving to more specific process questions. In-room facilitation across a five-hour session.

What followed

The written readout documented the agreed decision-making framework, which both teams confirmed was accurate. The head of engineering said it was the first meeting in eighteen months where both sides left with the same understanding of what had been agreed.

Off-site Programming · Financial Services Group · Langkawi · Apr 2025

The situation

A regional financial services group was holding a two-day senior leadership off-site in Langkawi. Fifteen participants. The internal sponsor wanted a programme that held a coherent thread across both days and included time for informal conversation without losing momentum.

What we did

An Off-site Programming Programme over five weeks. Designed a full two-day programme with six structured sessions, two informal blocks, and a structured closing conversation on the afternoon of day two. Facilitated all structured sessions on-site.

What followed

The closing readout identified seven decisions made during the two days and twelve open items assigned to named owners. The sponsor described it as the most productive off-site the group had run. Three months later, five of the seven decisions had been implemented.
